Heaven’s Gate was behind him now. Hours of open water had swallowed it whole, leaving only the sway of the boat and the long quiet of a man with nothing left to bet.
Drifting on the water, Drew was gifted the Hermes’ Caduceus Cross-Keytar. Hermes’ twin serpents forged into something he could not only carry but something he could play.
As the crew makes landfall at Porto Tranquilo, the little dock at the edge of the island, is where the next adventure of Drew begins. Because a gift isn’t the same as knowing how to wield it, a lesson learned quickly. When he offered Demeter’s torch in trade, old reflex, everything for a price, she only looked at him. Still a fool. Some things are priceless. They’re meant to be safeguarded, not commodified.
Where he came from, everything had a price. Here, the things that matter most cant be bought at all.
He might have stood there forever, turned away at the edge of dry land, if she hadn’t spoken first.
“He’s with me.”
Lira The Scales standing at the end of the dock like she’d been waiting on him for years. He hadn’t expected her here — of all the faces left in the world.
They went back, the two of them. Back to Heaven’s Gate, she’d been one of the few people in that place who never wanted a thing from him. Just someone who’d sit with her when the noise died down.
“You done playing around?” she asked. Half a smile — the same one she used to wear when she already knew the answer.
She didn’t ask what he could offer and never had to. Some doors don’t open for a price. Some open because of who’s standing on the other side, still remembering your name.
“Who’s playing?” he stated.
“You.”
