Spotify Scams + Warning
I had an interesting experience with one of my tracks on DistroKid. Unexpectedly, my song landed on a playlist that was faking its stream counts through illegitimate means. Soon after, I was approached by the service promising similar boosts, which I promptly ignored. Despite not engaging with these dubious practices, Spotify took down my track in an effort to combat fake streams.
Thankfully, I was able to re-upload the song with a new UPC while keeping the same ISRC. This move preserved my legitimate streams. If you ever notice an unusual spike in your streaming numbers, it’s crucial to talk to your distributor immediately to prevent potential takedowns. This is going to be a major focus for companies moving forward!
