⚡️ No Rap on Sundays 004
Mixed By DJ XXXL
Elegant Funk: A blend of Japanese boogie and city pop: silky basslines, dreamy synths, and tight drum programming. What’s wild is how many of these tracks echo the sounds of classic soul and funk artists from the States. It’s a reminder of how deep black artists’ influence ran, especially throughout the '70s and '80s, when American R&B, funk, and jazz fusion began inspiring a generation of Japanese musicians and producers.
City Pop emerged during Japan’s economic boom as the sound of modern, urban luxury, inspired by the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, and producers like Quincy Jones. Japanese artists reinterpreted those sounds through their own cultural lens, creating something both familiar and distinct.
Perfect for lazy Sundays, late-night drives, or crate-digging inspiration.
